Post war, Hermione is employed at Ministry, is aware of marriage law coming up. She asks Snape to marry her because it's advantageous to both, but hurts his feelings in the way she asked. He agrees, then treats her harshly. They're married for several years. She comes to care for him but when the marriage law is finally repealed he divorces her. She's angry and disappointed but we find later that he did it to 'set her free'. He's still a broken man.
