Then essentially you're just creating a copy of the memory. If people use Pensieves to clear out memories (Dumbledore says he feels like there's no room for new memories), you wouldn't keep that memory.
I think it takes more effort to copy and manipulate original memory files. Slughorn needed to copy the memory, so what I think happened when Dumbledore came calling was he took the original memory, put it into a Pensieve, copied it, put the original back into his head, then altered the parts of the copied file and gave it on to Dumbledore.
But I agree with your idea of Post-It notes. That's sort of the idea I had as well, except I was thinking of it more as a computer. I think Post-It notes works better to explain it though, lol.
You're trying to find a memory, instead you find: "Memory from 06-09-87 (first day of school) in Pensieve"
That makes a little bit of sense, doesn't it? |

That sounds like an aweful lot of leg work just to *do* something that you can do mentally.
Besides, I always took Dumbledore's comment as tongue in cheek. My 97 year old grandmother always says it feels as if her head is so full of memories she has no room for new ones, but she's sharp as a tack and can remember little things like what color she was wearing the first time she heard a certain song on the radio in 1930 to the bigger things.
It would boil down to the properties of the pensive and how the user intended to use it. Could it work as an oblivate? Ie, if you wanted to completely rid yourself of a memory you can, but a shadow of it still exists inside your head.
Ugh....
I should be working, not coming up with theories and ideas. |
