There are a couple of older HG/SS fics that I am trying to find.
The first deals with Hermione helping Severus with a potion. All I can remember about the story is the potion turns multicolored, I think, or it settles to a silver color. That's all I can remember.
The other has Hermione noting that the shampoo Severus uses is why his hair appears greasy, to protect it from the fumes from various potions. She transfigures part of her dorm room into a potions lab and creates a new shampoo for him. She also makes one for herself. Her efforts are noticed, and soon a lot of the Gryffindor girls are coming to her for beauty products.
There's a third story, where Hermione finds a smaller room of requirement in the library when she wanted to hide. I think it might have been in the forbidden section of the library, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure by the time Severus finds it, she made it rather cozy.
I'm pretty sure they were not written by McAmy or Riley, but they were each fairly long. I cannot remember either where they were hosted at the time I read them.
Thanks for all your help. |

I'm afraid that I can't help with the first and third stories (or at least not yet) -- but the second story sounds as if it might be "The Fire And The Rose" by Abby. One of the reasons why I think it might be that one is because you mentioned the fanfic author named Riley who as far as I know has not written anything for a very long time indeed -- and the same site which still hosts "The Fire And The Rose" also continues to host what is probably Riley's best known story, "Pawn To Queen". The site in question is La Societe Des Femmes Dangereuses (http://www.witchfics.org). It might be worth poking around that site to see if the other stories you're thinking of are there as well...
While I'm fairly confident that the second story is "The Fire And The Rose", I'm not 100% certain because there are some deviations between the story you remember and this one. "The Fire And The Rose" involves a potion accident which causes Severus and Hermione to switch bodies -- so while the Gryffindor girls think they're asking Hermione for beauty products, they're really dealing with Severus, who starts making them for Hermione's/his body because he doesn't trust the ingredients in Hermione's Muggle products. Hermione, in her turn, finds out that the reason why Snape's/her hair looks the way it does is because he uses a bar of what seems like household soap to wash it and it leaves a sticky residue behind.
As it happens, "The Fire And The Rose" has a sequel which is hosted on the same site -- and it strikes me that perhaps some of the plot elements you remember came from there since Severus finds himself being drafted as a test subject for a men's line of personal care products which Hermione has been asked to make. |

I've the first few chapters of "The Fire and The Rose" and I believe you are right. The first story, I'm starting to fear is Castra Concupisco. If that's the case then it's lost. |

| Glad I could help. Now that I think about it, the third story sounds vaguely familiar to me as well -- or at least, I've read something similar to it. I seem to recall coming across a story within the last few months in which Hermione discovers a section of the Hogwarts library which has been Disillusioned so that students are unable to find it -- this is because at least some of the books within contain information which would be considered ambiguous if not outright Dark. If memory serves, it was also a story which has been around for a while and is not of recent posting. I'll let you know when (or if) I come across it again. |

Sounds a bit like Ars Amatoria. I thought that was the one I was thinking of, but it's only one chapter. This was fairly long (I have a thing for multichapter stories, but I dig shorter ones as well).
I want to say she found the room because she was hiding from Snape. She was in the Restricted Section when she wasn't suppose to be, looking at the books. She hears someone approaching, gets scared and the little room pops out. I think she's afraid to leave it at first because she thinks he's still out there. At some point, one of the other girls finds out about the room from Hermione. I think. We're talking about a period between 2002 and 2005, and I've read a lot more fiction since then. |

Thank you for pointing out that story, but it isn't the one I'm thinking of.
I did find the first story, which I described horribly. It is The Amber Effect by wandlimb.
Thank you everyone who has tried to help me with this. My brain's popped out a couple more, but I feel silly asking for more help. |

Still searching for the third story in my original threesome.
Next on my list is a comedy, I think. The scene that I'm remembering is someone, Severus I think because he's rather snarky, comes to house that the Trio are living in after graduation. The boys decided to take a year off before they start their careers. Hermione has a sign outside the house that reads SPEW and, I think, SPOON. Anyone gotta clue?
I'm saving these as I go so I don't have to ask everytime one of these stories pops into my noggin'. |
