This is an older story and I'm pretty sure it was only posted on the author's LJ or personal website and not on any of the archives.
I believe that Hermione was working at the ministry and in a position to know that some sort of marriage/procreation requirement was coming so she proposes to Snape for a marriage of convenience. After the wedding Snape more or less blackmails her into making it a marriage with full benefits.
I forget exactly what they were trying to do but some of the scenes I remember: They have to go to an abandoned asylum and search it for something. Hermione gets help and equipment from a muggle group who's hobby is exploring abandoned buildings. The muggle drives them to near the site in his mini. Hermione and Snape find someone or something living in the building or perhaps evidence of experiments gone wrong. They end up burning down the building by accident and barely escaping.
They either get found out or turn themselves in somewhere in Europe (Germany maybe?) so they can get tried under international law rather than British law. They have a trial and get released. After they return to England, Snape files for divorce without explaining anything to Hermione. The readers know that he's pushing her away because she has some unresolved issues (from the war?) and he doesn't think that she'd ever resolve them if they stay married. I think the story ended there.
The author did write an epilogue where after a number of years have passed (10? 20?) Snape is in a hospital because he's in a coma. His only movement are his fingers doing some tapping. The healers bring Hermione in because she was once married to him and may have some insight as to why he wasn't waking up. Snape eventually wakes up and has almost no memory. Hermione takes him to her flat while he still needs physical and magical therapy. The finger tapping turns out to be piano scales (Every Good Boy Deserves A Favor). |
