I've just taken my first foray into the world of fanfiction (I write lots of original stuff, but I've never borrowed/played with material before) and I'm nervous about it. I was bitten by a very evil plot bunny and forced to write a rainy day one-shot. It's relatively short, very mild, and insane in that it's a "ss/gw" sort of thing. To make it easier I've taken my cue from the wonderful post about the proper treatment of betas. I hope this is enough info !
