If I'm not sure if something is canon or not, where is the best place to ask such a question? |

Looks like "The Library" here is the forum best suited to that. |

I would also suggest the Harry Potter Lexicon:
http://www.hp-lexicon.org
It's very extensive and most useful.

Although bear in mind that the HP Lexicon is slanted towards the bastardised American versions of the books. When in doubt, double-check |

I'm not sure if it's actually a quesiton of canon or language. I wanted to know if the denizens of the Wizarding World were likely to use the term "nanny", or is there a more magical counterpart to it.
So, would the Library be the appropriate place to put such a question? (I tried the Lexicon and didn't find anything useful there.) |

Since hiring someone to watch children has never come up in any of Ms Rowling's books, there is no wizarding equivalent in canon.
While I've read fanon that's used house-elves as nannies, and there's a challenge (I think WIKTT) in which Hermione takes on the role, I don't recall any special wizarding world term for the job.
Sounds like you're free to have a go.

If it's a question of language (such as "Nanny"), then you might be better served by having a Brit-picker beta. |
