Ok, I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but Snape going to a Christmas Party???? Who'd a thought?

Ok, we know that Slughorn is a manipulating old codger, and that in FANON Snape mostly appears to be socially inept...

BUT...this is a new side of our delicious Potions Master...to hobnob with the other members of the 'Slug Club'...perhaps to gain some info or make connections? Or was it a lapse on JK's part to include him in this little soiree? Or did she do it strictly as a way to get Snape to catch Draco...and then Draco smarts off to him without retaliation? He should have hexed the little tosser on the spot..

Maybe he was just there looking for chicks and free booze and Draco ruined his 'action'.... Twisted Evil

I was a little surprised to see him at the party, too. Although Slug has mentioned that Snape was one of his brightest students, so it didn't seem improbable that he was one of Slug's "favorites" when he was in school. And if, as seems fairly likely, Slug was teaching Potions up until the time Snape took over the post, I wonder what Slug's thoughts/actions were concerning Snape getting that job.

I do think that fanon may have painted the man more socially inept than he may actually be. On the other hand, based on Slug's comments ("stop sulking"), maybe that view isn't too far off. What I wonder is what obligation could have made Snape feel that he had to come to the party at all.

I've always thought that Snape, given his spying, would have incredible observation skills and would be more than adept at dealing with group situations and dealing with people. He's also Head of House, which means he probably speaks to a lot of parents (imagine having a parent-teacher conference at a Death Eater meeting...).

I don't think he deals with children well, especially kids that disrespect him as much as Harry and Ron do, but I think he could be good at dealing with people.
