Hi, y'all:

I've never written fanfiction before, but I've enjoyed reading it for over a year. I'm in the process of writing a long, smuty story (SS/OFC) and it will most likely be forty to fifty chapters in length. I already have finished an outline, background, and several chapters (appearently the writing muse kicked me in the ass). Here is where I need the opinions of the creative writers and excellent betas of Sycophant Hex.

Do you think it is better to submit the work to a beta while in the midst of writing, or waiting until the story is complete?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, As you plan it to run for quite a number of chapters, I don't think you would like to have to wait that long before posting. However, my advice, for what it is worth, would be get a substantial number of chapters completed and beta read first, then you can start posting but keep up with your story. That way your readers won't be faced with a long delay between updates and you get feedback, and believe me that is always a reward.

I agree that it is good to have a few chapters finished before you post any. If your muse is really with you you may even be able to finish the story before posting any of it. There is nothing more dissapointing than reading a WIP and having the writer suddenly lose inspiration and abandon the fic. I woudl however get a beta ASAP since you sound like you've made a really good start already - a good beta can keep yoru muse in line and help you finish faster

The other advantage to having a beta you can really work with is the feedback you give to each other. You might find you want to re-write sections or expand on certain parts after your beta gives you feedback.
