As you all know, the OotP trailer will been released to the public as one of the previews for Happy Feet. I for one will endure singing, dancing penguins to see it. That, and my three daughters want to see said singing, dancing penguins. I really love my kids. Very Happy

Anyway, I just want to know what everyone else thinks about it.

No need to see the movie (Happy Feet I mean). Wink
In their site there's a very good quality OotP trailer waiting to be seen.

That's very true, Maddy Riddle, although I can say that Happy Feet is really cute, and worth seeing if you have children. The trailer teaser is almost Squee-worthy--very few things make me squee. I'm now more excited than ever about seeing the OotP movie.

You can also view the clip from HBO here: http://www.hpana.com/news.19673.html

The trailer looks pretty interesting; if I hear that the movie itself is good, then OotP might be one of the few movies I actually go to see at a theatre. Mind, I still haven't even seen GoF yet, so I'll have to do that before July... Embarassed

Incidentally, I haven't watched Happy Feet either, but my 13-year-old piping student recommended it after our lesson yesterday. Might have to check that one out, too. Smile

just watched the ootp trailer ... um, not feeling too good about the occulemancy scene between snape and harry.

snape: "you won't last two seconds if/when voldemort invades your mind."

harry: (whines)"i'm not weak!"

Snape: (said almost gently and admonishingly)"then prove it!"

I'm sure it's heavily edited and may not reflect the scene at all, but... gah! they are just getting further and further away from the spirit of the book. ootp has always been my fave too. Crying or Very sad

Harsh! I happen to be the kinda person who's always on the net so I've looked up harry potter videos on google enough to have seen at least 3 Ootp previews and Harry and Snape did not sound like that in that scene! Harry's Po'd when he says he's not weak and Snape snaps at Harry annoyed at him when he tells him to prove it!

it is, of course, a matter of opinion. Which by the way, was the main topic of this thread... >>what we thought of the trailer. I still maintain that it was pretty lame, (particularly the characterization of Snape) but i'm reserving final judgment for when the movie actually comes out.

Keep in mind that Snape was relatively calm and collected during that scene. There's still the part when Snape hauls Harry out of the Pensieve to look forward to.

Re: Film!Snape, I think maybe the main problem is that in the films he comes across as a harsh but ultimately "good" guy - like protecting the three of them from Lupin as a werewolf, making sure Harry remains out of harm's way etc etc.

He has lost the canon ambiguity that makes him such a fascinating character to read about.

Whether that's because he has to be simplified for the film or to make the HBP "betrayal" scene more shocking for the big screen, I don't know, but I know what Firewhiskey means when she (i presume? Cool) says that film!snape isn't great.

I think there's a lot in the trailer that concerned me, personally. Dolores Umbridge for a start: she's meant to be fat and toadlike! Where's the cardie and the black velvet bow?? Also, way to much flying about in London with all the subtlety of a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. They're meant to be avoiding notice for crying out loud! I admit to being a bit flummoxed by people's reaction to the Occlumency scene...I didn't think Snape sounded anything other than sneery in it. *shrugs* But Alan, bless his heart, is starting to look too old for the part.

I don't see the problem with Snape either - he seemed one evil mofo IMO Smile And I agree with Faraday about Dolores Umbridge - she looks nothing like the book! And what about the Death Eater's mask?! It looks stupid - reminded me more of Darth Vader than anything else Smile

Wonderful—now I'm going to be thinking of "The Imperial March" every time I read a scene with the Death Eaters in the books. Smile

Actually, though, I thought that they looked like those really stupid-looking rubbery masks that a lot of shops are filled with around Hallowe'en—you know, the kind that are so ugly that they're actually kind of funny. Confused

I think they borrowed the DE masks from the pagan ritual scene in The Di Vinci Code. Rolling Eyes

Dolores, I will reserve judgment on you until I see the movie.

What about Bella? Sexy evil vixen? Someone must have been reading Slut!Bella fanfiction. I'm sure Helena Bonhem Carter will do well in the part, but isn't she supposed to be older than Snape?

I think she looks like a cross between Bride of Frankenstein and a panto character! Although, I'm willing to wait and see before I condemn her. I'll do the same for Umbridge, but because she was a more-oft described character in the books, the contrast between film Umbridge and book Umbridge is quite blatant...at least visually.

I think Bonham Carter is ok for the role of Bella. She is nothing like the Bella in my head but then - none of the characters except Hagrid are Smile She looks fine even if I wanted someone taller and more ... I don't know ... noticeable perhaps Very Happy
