False, of course!!! *whistles innocently*

Well, it's not TERRIBLY illegal, like stealing or anything, but I jumped off a dock into a lake....and it was on private property, so I was trespassing.

The person below me has been to the circus.

Yep, to a number of circuses. Twice to the Shriners. The first one was when I was about 8. When my kids were about the same age, I took them again, and it was showering and, anyway, the Shriners didn't ride around in their little cars.

I also went to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey one with my grandmother when I was 28. She told everyone how we were parked next to the elephants. Lots of traditional multi-generation family action, pyramids of people and children being trained in the circus arts. You wondered how many years these families had been working together, and what countries were they all from. (The train passes through my town now, and once a year it parks on the overpass and you see the sleeping train early in the morning on your way to work. In Portland, OR, the elephants would go in parade from the train station over a bridge to cross the Willamette River to get to the performance arena.)

Then there was one more that I took the kids to. It was in a high school gym, and it had its "tame and shabby" white tiger for people to stand near for their pictures, but the people and their pet acts were awesome. One was a clown with a stuffed toy stuffed elephant that would run and do tricks when his back was turned, and freeze whenever the clown saw him. (At the end, the costume came off, and it was a small dog!)

The person below me has Columbus Day off (I don't).

Edit: GAH, once again I've taken too long to type a response. Embarassed

About Columbus Day: sort of true, sort of false. Of course, it's not a holiday up here, so I'm not entirely sure if that counts...

This year, though, it happens to fall on the date for Thanksgiving up here, which makes it sort of true.

I've only been to one circus that I remember. As I was only about five or six at the time I don't remember it well, but I do remember that my parents got angry at me because I had almost finished my cotton candy when the stick it came on somehow got stuck on some other kid's back. I had no idea how it happened, but they thought I'd done it on purpose.

I remember the elephants, though. I'd never seen one up close before and they gave me nightmares for years.

The most illegal thing I've ever been involved with happened in the December when I was 18. I was out with a bunch of my friends; we were just driving around after seeing a movie. To this day I don't know who came up with the idea (or how), but we ended up driving to someone's house (we all knew him, he was a real jerk) and one of the guys sneaked up and stole a Christmas light from one of the strings of lights around the window. Unfortunately, it was one of those light arrangements where if one bulb is removed or burns out, the whole string goes out.

You can guess how fast he ran back to the van. The bulb was returned the next day, taped anonymously to the guy's locker at school.

I think I wrote a filk of "The Call" by the Backstreet Boys to commemmorate this; I'm not exactly a fan of theirs--I can't stand them most of the time--but the girl who was driving the van was (and still is), and that's the song that was playing at the time.

The person below me is looking forward to the winter.

Mostly true. I do love the winter, I think it's all the bundling up you get to do. But I'll miss going to the park, feeding ducks, all the fun summer activities. And since I live in TX, there isn't any snow to play with, and not many winter activities, it's just cold.

I've been to the circus many times when I was younger. Every year they come to town, I always say I'm going to get tickets and go, but always end up forgetting.

The person below me gets snow where they live.

I do! It's always been one of my favorites.

I like winter and snow, but I'm not sure how much snow we will get here. We're about two hours south of where we used to live, and now we're just on the edge of "The South," so I really don't know. But then, in the Midwest you never know for sure if there will be snow in any given winter anyway. I grew up in the Rockies and we had snow *every* winter. So this hit-and-miss thing is hard on me.

I've always loved the circus, and I can't even count how many times I've gone to it. When my oldest son was younger, we lived in a city where the Shriner Circus was always on the weekend near his birthday, so we always went for his birthday while we lived there.

I remember a trespassing incident from my childhood. Some friends and I went over to the Catholic elementary school playground to play on a rather nifty piece of equipment--it was sort of like a merry-go-round, but the center was suspended from a tall pole, so it could move freely all around the pole. Finally an adult came out and told us that it was private property and we weren't allowed to play there. Being a very rules-oriented child, I was absolutely *traumatized* to find out that I had been breaking the law. Sad

The person below me prefers cinnamon to mint.

I much prefer mint to cinnamon, so false.

Well, I guess the only thing I've done is illegal by association. My friends smoke 'herb,' and I was in the room. So, that's the closet I've gotten to being naughty. Smile

I don't like winter, but I live in the Boston area. Pretty soon we'll get upwards of 2 feet of snow. I have Seasonal Affected Disorder (depressed in winter), so it's not really winter that hate, but the drop in sunlight.

I LURV pumpkin pie. I make it from scratch, with lots of cool whip on top.

When I lived in Kansas, we'd go to the State Fair, and they had side-show type booths, which is the closest I've been to an actual circus...

And continuing with the holiday themes...

The person below me hates having to choose which set of parents to spend holidays with. Lucky Rolling Eyes for me, me and my fiance's parents live close, so we can visit both sets at once.

My in-laws and parents live about 30 minutes apart, so we have a system. It's rather biased to the in-laws, though.

I adore pumpkin pie. My momma makes the best...

The person below me has a holiday birthday (mine's Dec. 19th).

True! I was born on (American) Thanksgiving, so my birthday is always right around then.

And I think that means I'm required to love pumpkin pie. Although, I have to admit, I like the pumpkin flan that I make even better. Wink

My finacee's mom lives about half an hour from us; my parents live about 3 hours away... but we do split the holidays between the families, and everyone seems pretty okay with it.

The person below me has a favorite non-"Traditional" dish that they always want on a holiday. (i.e. a food that isn't usually associated with said holiday, but somehow became tradition in your family anyway)

True! My family ALWAYS does Fondue on New Year's Eve. It's nice because you can just munch all night long instead of having to sit down and eat a meal.

I was born around American Thanksgiving, too! Since it changes every year, my birthday is ON Thanksgiving every once in a while.

If I admit to having more than one Mac, does that make me hopelessly partisan (or just married to a programmer? Or both?) We're a pretty geeky household-- our four year olds showed their teacher how to change the font color on her email. . . . but Macs, all the way. . .

I loathe pumpkin pie. Actually, only pie crust, so the crustless pumpkin "pie" recipe was a real boone. I love cooking for winter-- stews, soups, gratins, roasted root vegetables, stuffed mushrooms, breads. . . . and because of that, we've a host of nontraditional holiday foods. . . . .like Albondigas for Christmas Eve and blintzes for Christmas morning (though that may be perceived as more traditional than not. . .) Mushroom soup for (US) Thanksgiving with brocolli streudel. . . . Okay, now I'm hungry, darnit.

Yep, I think 5'2" qualifies as short.

Not really. I like some of it, but most of what I listen to tends to be classical, Celtic (and variations thereof), blues and classic rock.

At 5 foot 7, I don't think I qualify as short.

There are no holiday birthdays in my family, but a couple of us come close; my mother's birthday is December 23 and mine's November 3.

My grandfather was the first person in my family to use a Mac, just shortly after they first started being made. Although my dad and my brother are both stubborn Windows users, I prefer the Mac (far fewer things that I can screw up) and I am the proud owner of an iBook G4.

There are two kinds of cookies that I always bake around Christmas; neither of them are really "traditional" for Christmas and both are apparently Dutch in origin; they were my great-grandmother's recipes, and she brought them over when she and my great-grandfather and their kids came to Canada. One kind is what my family calls "rubber cookies" (can't remember the spelling of the Dutch name). There's a lot of honey in the recipe and once these things are cooled and put in the freezer, they become extremely chewy, hence the name. I'm not sure what the real spelling for the name of the second type is, but the variant that my family uses is "spekelaus". Anyone unfamiliar with them by that name might know them as "windmill cookies", like the ones sold by Voortman, though I've got to say that I prefer our recipe.

The person below me has received at least one major pleasant surprise in their life.

My engagement ring being the one I had admired for weeks before hand at the jeweller's and having not expected it to be the self-same one my beloved had also chosen.
