Greetings from Italy!
Charms, spells, hexes, curses...
Could anybody kindly tell me the exact meaning of the words above?
Are they related to the kind of magic involved (good side, dark side) or do they produce different effects and therefore have to be used for specifical occasions?
Thank you very much.

Dark magic is NOT taught at Hogwarts. That's the first thing you need to know.
Spells is a general term and can mean good or bad magic.
Charms are taught by Flitwick and seem to be simple good or harmless spells.
Hexes, Jinxes and Curses are dark magic. At a rough guess, they ascend in order of nastiness:
Jinx, hex, curse. Curses are worst (see the Unforgivable curses). |
