Ok, I'm finally biting the bullet. I'm sure I'll be able to hear the howls of laughter, but I need someone to explain to me in a non-patronising way exactly how you lay out a story with the correct HTML. I've read all the docs on the site, but having never done it before I just want some assistance and if anyone is feeling very generous a short example. I will be eternally grateful for any help at all. Thanks in advance, K.

HTML...quite tricky. Smile But do-able.

HTML only need be used to make parts of the text BOLD, UNDERLINED, or ITLAICIZED, include an IMAGE, create a solid LINE across the screen, CENTER the text, and post a LINK.

The codes for these are:

<b> bold
<i> italicize
<u> underline
<img> image
<a> link
<center> center text
<hr> solid line

The codes should be included in the text directly before the word/area that will be affected by it. When wanting to end the bold/italicize, underline, image, link, or centering, use:
</b>
</i>
etc.

There is no end code for the solid line, just use <hr> on it's own line.

No spaces should be added on either side of the html codes - just leave the ones from the original text, and it should show up correctly spaced when posted.

Thank you so much! So if I posted a story am I correct in thinking that I only need to use it to centre the title? Or is there a different way to leave a blank line than simply making it blank on notepad? Sorry for my ignorance, I just don't want to write an entire fic for it to look a mess when I submit.

You will need the center opening and closing tag as Jackie told you. And for a blank line you could just enter a blank line and not have to put anything there. The story text box actually reads the blank lines.

Sorted. I'm going to scurry off and work out my outline. Many thanks to both of you.
