I remember reading something about comparing Hermione and Snape as an irresistible force meeting an immovable object. It was one of the earliest fics that I ever read, but I can't remember where it was from. It was probably at least 2 years ago, maybe 3, as I started reading fanfiction in August 2007. I don't remember anything else. Can anyone help?

Nevermind, I think I found it. I'm pretty sure it's Across the Anvil by Subversa. It's the title of one of the chapters. It's quite possible that there are other stories out there that reference the same conundrum. It certainly fits Hermione and Snape.
