How many fellow Sycophant Hex members will be rubbing the fact that Severus Snape fought for the light in acquaintance's faces this week?

Snape had to die, I just thought he would be more influential in the final take-down then he was. I wonder when anyone remembered to go back to the Shrieking Shack for the body?

And, also, if he didn't want Harry to know about his love for Lily (and made Dumbledore promise not to tell) then why did he give all those memories to Harry?

What do you guys think?

My favorite Snape-centric lines of the series:
"...but the fact remains he [Voldermort] can move faster than Severus Snape confronted with a bottle of shampoo..."
"'Would you like me to do it now?' Asked Snape, his voice heavy with irony, 'Or would you like a few moments to compose an epitaph?'"
"'After all this time?' 'Always'"
"...he was probably the bravest man I ever knew."

Snape had to die,

Hi, could you explain me why exactly you think that Snape had to die?

It´s not a joke question, I really want to know what makes you think this way.

Thanks for an explanation.

It really stinks that Snape had to die, but it is an easy way for the author to shorten the book and aviod making confrontations between the two, though that's what a lot of people wanted. I'm sure someone went back for Snape after everything was settled down.. Harry, Hermione, and Ron went to Dumbledore's office, most likely to view the pensive, so..

I would imagine that Snape was going to tell Harry about Dumbledore's plans and such when he was going to 'go fetch the boy'. I don't think he had expected to die at that moment. In a way to explain what he had done his whole life and to show that he was loyal to the side of good, he had shown Harry about Lily and made it easier to let Harry believe him.

I thought that the method of his death was very interesting. JKR had many sources in her books, LOTR comes to mind as one. Here we have a Prince being killed by a snake, and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's little prince was also killed by a snake.

Do you think JKR left Snape's fate a little open ended? Yes, Harry thought he was dead, but he was attacked by Nagini. Arthur lived through an attack during OOTP. Snape was a potion's master and proved he was more advanced in magic than Arthur throughout the books. Snape's portrait is not in the office when Harry goes to see Dumbledore’s portrait. Do you think she did it to give the Snape fans hope that maybe he survived?

Bambu already posted a story about the possibilty at Ashwinder, using potions to help him survive and set him on the road to recovery.

I think maybe the missing portrait might have escaped her and her editors' notices. Goodness knows that there was more than enough time between his death and the grand finale in the office.
