Has anyone else noticed that the kid that Dudley beats up in OOTP is called Mark Evans? And what was Lily Potter's maiden name? Oh that's right - Evans!
It strikes me as odd that Rowling would use the same surname for two unrelated characters....anyone got any theories? |

Yes, she's said something.
From the Harry Potter Lexicon:
Evans, Mark
Boy who lives near Privet Drive. Dudley beat him up on 31 July 1995 [Y15] (OP1) for "cheeking" him. At that time, Mark was ten years old and Dudley was fifteen.
Despite having the same last name as Harry's mother, Mark is nothing more than a "walk-on" character, according to Rowling (JKR).
